The Duel is now in its fourth year and what a great meet!! Wonderful colour and cheering from all our teams. Especially terrific to have all Gippsland Development Squads in attendance as well as emerging talent in the SV Country Development Squad adding greatly to the racing.
Swimmers from the SV Country Development Squad and GSI Target/Development Squads started the day with a training session from 6; 30am. Before Gippsland Sports Academy swimmers joined them for a guest speaker presentation. Making the day even more special was the presence of Sam Ashby, former Gippsland and National swimmer and now Victorian and Club coach. He shared his experiences of what it is like to be an elite swimmer and coach with all squads and coaches present in an interview style presentation.
Congratulations to the RED team – ably coached by Dean Gooch and captained by Fabienne Schoutens and Caiden Gill. In a close finish the Red Team swam home strongly in the relay events to win. Congratulations! A great day of enthusiastic racing.
Thank you Brian Ford for being our MC and race organiser on the day, and to all officials, time keepers, coaches and to over 200 swimmers who made it a great event, once again. A huge thank you to our District major sponsor GDF SUEZ Aust. P/L for their ongoing support of swimming in Gippsland and to the team from Funky Trunks for supplying the swim caps on the day.
